1. Relive the war

Discover traces of the battle for the southern Grebbelinie in the May days of 1940 and visit the military field of honour on the Grebbeberg.

2. Nose to nose with the giant panda

Meet Wu Weng and Xing Ya, the only two giant pandas in the Netherlands and go on a voyage of discovery in Ouwehands Zoo. You can buy tickets at the reception with a nice discount.

3. The legend of Cunera

Rhenen was a popular pilgrimage site in the Middle Ages. The legendary patron saint Cunera is still commemorated every year. On the 2nd Saturday of June during Cunera Day, it is a celebration for young and old.

4. Discover history

In the May days of 1940, Rhenen was totally destroyed. Energetic efforts were made to repair the damage. During the liberation, however, the city was under fire again. The city centre built after the war is one of 30 reconstruction areas and of national importance.

5. Enjoy spectacular views

The various height differences in Rhenen guarantee breathtaking views, such as at recreation area Kwintelooijen (5a) and the Grebbeberg near the Koningskamer (5b).

6. Rhenen is the southern gateway to the Utrechtse Heuvelrug National Park

7. Soak up culture

The City Museum Rhenen offers a picture of the rich history of the city of Rhenen alongside changing exhibitions. Combine this with a cultural Saturday, usually on the second Saturday of the month, where you can visit various studios and exhibitions. Visit the website via this link.

8. Cosy shopping

Stroll along centuries-old city walls, alleys and picturesque corners and enter one of the nice shops in the historical city centre.

TIP: Herenstraat, Frederik van de Paltshof and Molenstraat offer the best shops. There is a market every Thursday.

9. Taste Rhenen

From cosy get-togethers to sumptuous dinners, there is no shortage of culinary delights in Rhenen. There are dozens of restaurants for foodies and gourmets. Taste the flavour of Rhenen in the cosy town centre or on a waterside terrace.

10. Cycling
