If you want to spend Chistmas in one of the most beautiful nature reserves of the Netherlands, De Thijmse Berg is a nice place to stay. That's because the comfortable vacation homes are located at the foot of the Utrechtse Heuvelrug. In this nature reserve you can go on the most beautiful winter hikes. When you return, you can fully unwind in your atmospheric vacation home. Will you watch a Christmas movie, cook Christmas dinner, or play a game? You can also treat yourself to a more luxurious accommodation with a sauna and/or private swimming pool.

At De Thijmse Berg you can celebrate the holidays with the entire family, as we have various homes that can host up to 8 persons. All our homes offer enough space to relax and are located in the middle of, potentially white, nature.  The vacation homes offer all the comfort you are used to at home. You can also treat yourself to something special during the holidays, with an accommodation with a sauna or private swimming pool.  Besides our comfortable accommodations, the facilities at the vacation park ensure a nice Christmas vacation. You can come and enjoy a great winter meal at the brasserie at the park. Here you will enjoy the authentic atmosphere just as much as the delicious food and drinks we serve.

What is there to do during Christmas?

 

    Head out into the wintery area

    The location of De Thijmse Berg is unique. The park is located at the foot of the Utrechtse Heuvelrug, but the Hoge Veluwe and Betuwe are also close to the park. Beautiful in every season, but particularly special during winter. If you are lucky, you can enjoy a beautiful white landscape of heathlands, forested areas, and floodplains.

    Go on a hiking or cycling tour

    Do you like a winter walk or do you like exploring nature by bike? This is the right place to go! There is an endless amount of hiking and cycling routes to pick from. If you did not bring your bike, you can still explore the area on two wheels. Besides bikes we also rent out e-choppers. 

    Visit the authentic town of Rhenen

    Rhenen is a characteristic town by the Rhine, and is about 2 kilometers from our vacation park. The towering characteristic Cunerakerk is beautiful to see and iconic for the town. Besides that, the old town center features lots of bars and restaurants, and you also have the option to go on a nice shopping spree. 

    Visit Ouwehands Dierenpark

    This remarkable zoo is only 3 kilometers away from the park and is open all year. Visit the giant pandas, polar bears, or penguins this Christmas. Or take the children to the indoor playing jungle, where you can warm up with a hot cup of coffee or chocolate on the indoor terrace. Tip: visit the Light Nights, a light spectacle for all ages.

    Discover the military history of the area around Rhenen

    During World War II the area around Rhenen, the Grebbelinie, was used as strategic line of defense. This winter, go from De Thijmse Berg to the Grebbeberg, where you'll still find remains of this period. In May 1940, a battle with the German army was fought around this push moraine that is 52 meters high. Here you'll also find the Militair Ereveld, various trenches, and casemates.
